Lava Rock
When you purchase a fire pit or burner kit from us, we supply enough lava rock to cover the burners.
However, if the interior dimensions of your fire pit are larger than the burner, you may wish for more lava rock.
This 1 x 5kg bag of lava rock covers an approximately 1,800 sq cm area.
The lava rock should be placed in a single layer deep enough to cover the burner tubes.
Cover the rocks when not in use to keep them dry.
Lava Rock Key Features:
-
Heat-resistant volcanic rock retains and radiates heat
-
The natural reddish-black colour provides a decorative look
-
Lightweight and porous for even heat distribution
-
Reusable for multiple fire pit/burner uses
-
Withstands weather elements when kept dry

About Lava Rock
Lava rock is porous and holds moisture. If you light the burner with wet lava rock, the moisture inside turns to steam quickly and can cause the rock to pop and crack.
It may even spit small pieces out of the firepit. Once the lava rock has dried out, this is no longer a problem.
The lava rock may be wet for new installations, so it's best to remove it from the bags and allow it to dry before placing it on the burner.
Alternatively, place the rocks on the burner and light it. The heat will burn off the moisture quite quickly. During this time, keep away from the firepit and ensure there are no cushions nearby that any spitting rocks could land on.
Do not place lava rock on top of the pilot light cage.
